Raptor Rapture and Drawings

Recently Long Road Sixth Form College had the Raptor Centre come in and we spent the day, learning about and drawing 5 different birds. They were stunning every single one of them:

The first one I looked was the tawny owl. Now this owl was very interesting and beautiful. Her name was Topaz and she had big beautiful brown eyes. I liked a lot of the pictures I took of her, because she was constantly looking at the camera.

She was stunning! I liked this photo so much I decided to edit her on photoshop and put her in space to make her look aboriginal. This is part of my inspiration for my photoshoot that I'm planning to do on Open Evening at Long Road.

The other birds were just as beautiful and here is some drawings that I did during the visit from the raptor centre...

This drawing I did of the tawny owl, she was stunning! For this drawing and the ones below I have used felt tip pen and coffee, I've used coffee on top of the felt tip pen to smudge the pen in the darker places. This helps me show contrast between light and dark. I enjoyed this method of drawing because I found that it didn't have to be perfect. I tried making my drawings as accurate as possible although obviously some turned out better than others.

These have obviously been done with the same method and I thought the materials worked well together because I liked the contrast between the light and dark in the drawings. Also if I could do it again I would definitely spend more time drawing with these materials. The reason for this is that I don't think I spent enough time using materials I enjoyed which is why I didn't enjoy it as much as I should of. The two drawings above are my favourite because the owls were my favourite birds to draw and also I think that the drawings are quite accurate and the contrast between the light and dark has worked well too.

This was the last drawing I did of the Bateleur Eagle. Her name was Scarlett. She was one of the most amazing, and beautiful birds that came to visit Long Road. She was so colourful! This drawing is just basic fineliner on brown paper. I think this drawing works well because the lines of her feathers were accurate and also I think that it works well even though it was just a rough quick sketch because it shows I have looked at the bird in detail and tried to distinguish the long and short feathers and added that into my drawing.
